Picture Board
Add an auto-scrolling picture board to the Phoenix dashboard — banner images with optional links, dark mode variants, ordering, and scheduling.
The Picture Board is an auto-scrolling carousel of banner images on the Phoenix dashboard. Each banner can link to an external website or to one of your custom pages, supports a separate dark mode image, and can be scheduled to appear and disappear on set dates. Use it for promotions, event artwork, partner logos, or anything else you want pilots to see the moment they log in.
The Picture Board Needs Two Things
Uploading banners on their own won't make them appear. You also need to add the Picture Board component to your dashboard layout in Pages → Phoenix Dashboard.
Accessing the Picture Board
In Orwell, go to Pages → Picture Board. You need the Can Manage Pages permission — the same permission that grants access to Custom Pages and the Phoenix Dashboard editor.
Creating a Banner
Each banner has the following settings:
Image (required) — the banner image shown to pilots. Maximum file size 100 MB.
Image - Dark Mode (optional) — shown automatically when a pilot is using dark mode. If you don't upload one, the standard image is used in both themes.
Link — where clicking the banner takes the pilot: None, External URL, or Internal Page.
Open in Same Tab — only shown when a link is set. Off by default, meaning links open in a new tab. Turn it on to keep the pilot in the same tab.
Link Types
Type | Behaviour |
|---|---|
None | The banner is displayed but is not clickable. Use this for purely decorative or informational images. |
External URL | Links to any website outside vAMSYS. The URL is validated when you save, so it must be a working address. |
Internal Page | Links to one of your custom pages, chosen from a searchable dropdown. The link always points at the page's current URL, so renaming the page won't break the banner. |
Deleting a Linked Page
If you delete a custom page that a banner links to, the banner's link is cleared rather than the banner being removed. The list view shows Page (deleted) so you can spot it and either relink or remove the banner.
Scheduling
Banners can be set to appear and disappear automatically, which is useful for time-limited promotions or seasonal artwork you don't want to remember to remove:
Active From — the date and time the banner starts showing. Leave blank to show it immediately.
Active Until — the date and time the banner stops showing. Leave blank to show it indefinitely.
Enabled — on by default. Turning this off hides the banner immediately regardless of its schedule, without deleting it.
A banner is shown to pilots only when it is enabled and the current time falls inside its active window. Both dates are optional and independent — you can set only a start date, only an end date, or neither.
Ordering Banners
Banners are shown to pilots in the order they appear in the list. Drag rows using the reorder handle to change the sequence. New banners are added to the end of the list.
Adding the Picture Board to the Dashboard
To show your banners, go to Pages → Phoenix Dashboard and add the Picture Board component to a block in your layout. Like every dashboard component, it has a Component Width setting (25%, 33%, 50%, 66%, or 100%) and a Hide Component toggle. There is nothing else to configure on the component itself — the images come from the banners you uploaded above.
How Banners Appear to Pilots
Slides advance automatically every 4 seconds and loop back to the start.
Pagination dots below the carousel let pilots jump to a specific banner. Auto-scrolling continues after a pilot interacts with it.
Images scale to the full width of the component, so banners of a consistent aspect ratio look best together.
The dark mode image is swapped in automatically when the pilot has dark mode active — no page reload needed.
If no banners are currently active, the component takes up no space on the dashboard at all. It does not leave an empty card behind.
Use Banners Instead of Placeholder Events
If you have been creating events purely to get promotional images onto the dashboard, move those images to the Picture Board instead. It keeps your events list to genuine activities and gives you scheduling and link control the events workaround never had.
List View
Column | Description |
|---|---|
Image | Thumbnail preview of the banner |
Link | The external URL, the linked page title, or None |
Enabled | Whether the banner is switched on |
From | Scheduled start, or Always if unset |
Until | Scheduled end, or Always if unset |
Each row has actions to edit or delete the banner. Deleting asks for confirmation first.
